Cinnabar (Danpi) in Chinese Medicine
In TCM, “Danpi” (丹皮) often refers to Moutan Cortex (the root bark of Paeonia suffruticosa), also called tree peony bark.
It’s used medicinally to cool blood, clear heat, and reduce inflammation, not usually as a culinary spice.
“Danpi” as a dried peel
In some contexts, “pi” (皮) means peel or bark, so it could mean a type of dried citrus peel or herb bark used as a spice.
